Omega Centauri from Willow Springs

Greg LaFlamme

Omega Cen was easy naked eye. It looked fantastic at 180x. We were able to see those dark patches inside to. They were easy to pick out! NGC 5128 was a show stopper as well. The dark "meat" inside showed well in the 12.5 but the 33 showed the dark lane has a textured edge! ( I guess this is my OR ;-) M83 showed much spiral structure in my 12.5" but was unbelievable in the 33. I logged a few Arps and was surprised at the amount of detail each showed as compared to the photos in Alvin's Arp book. That book is an excellent field tool. Alvin takes the work out of identifying these beautiful galaxies for us- perfect. My SQM showed a maximum of 21.68 but hovered around 21.64. We had a fantastic group of observers, a full pallet of objects to see, all on a great night.

Thanks to Richard Navarette, Mark Wagner, Steve Gottlieb, Chris Jenson and Mark Johnston for the fun and a BIG thanks to Kevin Ritschel for the shocking views and hosting another great star party!

I am severely sleep deprived and savoring it;-)
