Rich Neuschaefer
Last Friday at the SJAA's twice monthly in town public star party I had my trusty Takahashi FC-100 f/8 doublet APO refractor and had a great time splitting a couple of coubles I'd not tried before. The first was Alnitak (Zeta) the eastern belt star. At a little over 150x with my 5.2mm Pentax SMC-XL it looked like a double. But, with my 5mm Tak LE and TV 2x Barlow giving about 320x it was easy to the two Airy discs nicely separated.
The other star was Eta. It is roughly 1/4th of the way from the western belt star(Mintaka)and Rigel. It is a tighter double but at 320x it was a nice split. Thanks very much to Paul Mancuso for suggesting Eta!
Clear skies,
Rich
