It was indeed a fine night. Many thanks to Bob and Kevin for sponsoring the observing session at Willow Springs on Saturday. It was dark, dry, and cold. The low temperature was somewhere in the 43 degree range, and when the wind picked up I was glad I had the warm observing gear with me.A few notes:
Personal highlights were picking off all of Stephan's Quintet and the Deer Lick Group, no problem and no doubts at all, in both my 16" and Mark's 18" scope. I have always had trouble with the last member of Stephan's Quintet and the 16th mag member of the Deer Lick, but on Saturday they were really popping. Use of Mark's finder charts really helped.
M33 was a real showpiece, and using a finder chart provided by Bill Cone earlier this year we tracked down all the NGC's in M33 and a bunch of other stuff (A*).
Bob showed us some interesting, big dim objects in his 4/8 refractor. I am not 100% sure I saw it, but I'll keep looking for the big bubble around Lambda Orionis.
I also had a long look at the Banshee Nebula (aka M42, but I think that Banshee moniker will stick).
I spent the rest of my time observing H400 objects in Camelopardalis, Eridanus, Monoceros, Lynx, UMa, and ogling the big Messier open clusters in Auriga and Monoceros.
