I had a 'fair' view. Nowhere near as good as most of the SoCal Summer "Behind the Orange Curtain". Tis true that the stangnant more 'heavy' air in the Los Angeles basin is better for seeing. Whereas today it was downright 'temperate'. Tonight, viewing at 136x or so in my 10cm APO, every few seconds the area around the disk of Jupiter would 'flash' with a diffuse light and the disk would go almost featureless. Then it would snap to more of a 'sharp Jupiter' view as though looking through a small lazy eddy in a stream. Still I could clearly see the shadow of Io and the GRS during those better moments. Just the image was poor enough that it made it hard to 'flash memorize' the details. Like I knew they were there, but not. Unusual for my neck of the woods which has, truth be told, some awesome seeing compared to a lot of the country. At least from what I can gather from internet reports. IOW more often than not, I am used to excellent seeing from my backyard.Clear skies and see you in 10 days!
