I haven't written one of these in a dog's age. June was toast for observing, not for bad reasons.
Two weeks ago I got to fly to Philly, then head down to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where I mostly grew up. Had fun in the city and in the way rural country, visiting with lifelong best friends. Stayed Thursday and Friday with pals right along the Chester River on the upper Shore. There are no lights visible from their house, just like when we were growing up. Thursday night was OK for stars. Friday night was spectacular. 5.5 limiting magnitude easy, I just don't want to exaggerate. Crisp Milky Way, tons of stars.
Just the kind of sky I got conditioned to as a kid, from only a mile upriver from our old house. Excellent.
