Bonny Doon Saturday night

Jamie Dillon

Socked in at sunset. We had wide bands of clouds moving up till about 11, same as at the Peak in fact. Hardly mattered; it was a thrill to finally get to Bonny Doon Airport. A really good observing site, good horizons, no lights to the South and West. From Salinas it's a comparable drive with the one to the Peak, under an hour.

Passing by the UCSC campus, it gets rural fast. I'd been up to Bonny Doon before, years back, still very pretty country. At the airport, next to the strip there's a patch of crops. Turns out to be the Bonny Doon Lavender Farm, from whom we've bought lots of stuff over years. Generally a genial air about.

Met John Pierce after long years of communicating online. Paul Duncan was there, along with Eric Didn't Get His Last Name and several other folks I only met in passing, including this guy with a nifty homebrew Dobs on a tracking mount. And Joe Bob hissef was there, also on a maiden voyage.

Want to thank the SCAC for their hospitality, and for keeping such a top notch spot going. More!
