I had to work till 10 last night, and slept through a 2 am alarm. My husband woke me at 3 , and the dragon had almost completely swallowed the reddish egg. Darker and darker skies gave birth to the fall constellation treasures, and my binoculars kept wandering off to the east and north...
I got out the colored pencils and a pad of black paper and started to sketch... About 340, a bright meteor shot under the fully engulfed moon, tho what the sign meant, I'm not sure. As the moon slipped down behind the trees, I lazed in the recliner and watched the slow cruise overheard. Andromeda's galaxy and Perseus clusters shown bare-eyed in the false dark, a clear and still-warm night. Northbound jets out of San Francisco ducked under Mars and the watchful eye of the bull, and the ghost of an owl, uplit by shoplights below, headed back home to the oaks by the creek.
At 5, I came in to watch the full moon return in the west out the bedroom window for another hour, and now ready for breakfast and a walk.
Ah yes, Tuesday is a lovely day to have off from work. A nap is in order for the brighter afternoon...
Clear skies
