8/12/07, Fairfield School Davis

by Matt Tarlach

Attended a nice public Perseid event last night, at this location a few miles W of downtown Davis. I was surprised at how dark it was, once we taped some sweatshirts over the security lights and the TV news crews called it a night....better than LM6 at the zenith with lots of dark nebulae visible along the Milky Way.

Had about 100 members of the public and a half-dozen scopes from Davis astronomy club turn out. Again showed eye candy objects, this time in the 8", in between staring at the sky for meteors. Noticeably more bright Perseids than the previous night; after midnight people were oohing and aahing at >LM1 meteors better than every five minutes, with many more faint shooters of course.

Two very nice nights but I'm about astro'ed out for this New Moon, so taking my hat out of the ring for tonight. Hope you all had great nights up at altitude.
