OR from inside a cloud

by Rob Hawley

Well I was warned. I saw the clouds blowing over the peak as I approached Gilroy, but went anyway.

About 5 PM a stiff wind was blowing a cloud deck that was backed up on the peak. Occasional puffs were blowing past FPOA. Most of us kept our scopes in the car.

By 8 PM the wind died and clouds dissipated. It looked like our patience was going to be rewarded. We set up our scopes and watched the sunset. By 8:30 though the clouds were moving up the mountain and once again covered FPOA. We waited in the wet hoping for clearing again. By 9:45 we had enough.

Several people called Mark. He was nice enough not to gloat the conditions at Coe (too much).
