Great Springtime Observing From Coyote Lake Park Last Night, 4-9-07.

by Peter Natscher

Greg LaFlamme, Dan Kaeo, and I had a great night observing with our Dobs Œtil 12:30 am at Coyote lake Park last night. It was a ³get out and do it² night taking advantage of the one clear night forecast for this week. You never know when the weather will offer this kind of observing in the springtime. The sky had good transparency, temps were in the low 50¹s, no dew, and the wind had stopped by the start of astronomical twilight. Seeing was at 1 arc-sec allowing me to get sharp views of all kinds of galaxies galaxies at 275X. I was continuing my H2 logging and sketching with my 18² Starmaster. I logged 12 objects in Leo and Coma Berenices bringing my total to 371 objects logged, described, and sketched out of the 400 on the list. My favorite of the night was ³The Box² (Hickson 61) a group of four tightly spaced oval and edge-on galaxies arranged in a rectangle in Coma Berenices. Their NGC numbers are: 4174, 4175, 4169, 4173. What will I do after observing this list?
