To keep it short, it was a pretty decent night out there. Not too cold and pretty steady skies. NELM to the south and east was at least 6.0, maybe a little deeper. To the west - forget it as usual and north was 5.9. Not too shabby consider the high thin stuff earlier in the day. We observed 'till about 10:15.
I didn't bring the 22", but did bring the TeleVue refractor and enjoyed some pretty good views. I also managed to see Abell 21 (Medusa Nebula) with direct vision with the 4" refractor, was obvious with averted vision. Dan saw it too. Again this is an indicator that this is not a bad night. We saw all kinds of stuff; M-42, 78, 1, 46 (with the little PNe), 47, 93, 66, 65, 108, 97, 101, 51, Rosette, Hubble Variable, that's all I can remember for now.
It was a nice evening to catch up on some faint photons. I wished I got there at sunset, but I was waffling whether to go or not...then Dan called...I said what the heck, I'll go and tossed the refractor and mount into my car and left.
If the storm clears, I'll go out again tomorrow night.
Clear skies,
Alvin
