17p Holmes from Houge Park

Rob Hawley

About 6 or 7 of us stuck around after the meeting last night. About 9:30 the sky could only be described as grim.

By about 10 PM holes started appearing. I turned off the Houge lights and got out an 8" loaner scope that we were going to exchange. The group of us were treated to an excellent view of the comet. By 10:30 that part of the sky was regularly clear.

The skies were far more transparent then Thursday night. Last night the comet was easily visual as a triangle with alpha and delta Perseus. In a scope it looked like what I saw Thursday with a very bright center, a tear drop white area at about 7 o'clock and an almost circular dimmer area. The symmetry of the object still strikes me.
