Comet brighter tonight than last

Michelle Stone

I had to set my mount at 50 degrees declination and scan up from the horizon to find it. I could not see any of the stars in Perseus tonight. We've got some high clouds and all I've been able to see is the big orange moon, Vega, and Jupiter without the optics.

You know, those setting circles that they paint on those things actually come in handy sometimes. It's too bad really that everyone has gone to goto stuff... reading the setting circles on the mount just ain't that hard. It's too bad that they don't put veneer marks on them any more.

Oh... by the way, tonight is first light for my new Losmandy GM8! Woo hoo!. I'm going to use this mount a lot more than I did the G11. It was just too big for me to haul around. Paul bought it for my birthday. He doesn't know it yet. ;)
