Thank you for your sketch, Alex, and for all of you who mentioned the funny shifts in the fuzzy part. I thought I was making some of that up as I, too, sought to avoid death by sprinkler in my neighborhood park.
Oddly enough, Holmes was the first thing I ended up focused on, and I thought I was having a repeat of Saturday at Calstar. I had to wander off to a star to convince myself that nothing was wrong with my scope. :)
Downtown San Jose, just under the flight path for the airport, this thing was crazy bright. All of the neighbors who stopped by for a gander were stunned, stunned I tell you that they could now pick out a comet in the sky. (That triangle asterism really helped.) I, too, just wandered off to the park without chair and with only one eyepiece and a barlow. (Is that a barlow in your pocket...?) I will definitely be heading out tomorrow night with all of the proper accouterments so that I can stay longer!
