Mercury Transit

by Joe Huber

I have decided to to step in the way back machine because it was better than what has been discussed recently.

The 5th grade students at my sun's elementary school study the Sun and Planets during the first part of the school year. Mid October I setup my H-Alpha rig to give them a view of what they had been studying. The Sun was kind of quite that day but had a few features to point out. I stayed through lunch so that those that were interested in extended views and those from other classes could see as well.

Since the interest was high I decided to make another visit the day of the transit. As most of you know, the day could not have been better. I'm sure well over a 100 students stopped by for a view and were treated to a large sunsopt and tiny silloette of Mercury and a promience or two. After the kids went back to class I took some time at the eyepiece. I was treated to all the things that the students were, but I got a bonus. I saw 2 UFO's siloetted against the Sun. I imagine it was one of those triple formation satellites. They seemed to be disk shaped and wobbling so maybe they were UFO's.

Now for a PSA
