Palomars, was Where Stars Go ...

by Jamie Dillon

Now for those of us medium-aperture users, here's one globular maniac's point of view. And sincerely, this is from Globular Man, who has seen every NGC globular north of -45 dec, and every non-NGC I can get in an 11". Several of the ones I thought were 'oh no', I picked up on dares from the Animal hissef.

in subjective order of difficulty,

Palomar 8 is pretty and in a great starfield. Palomar 9, ngc 6717, "easy hop, right by a bright star, looked fuzzy, wouldn't resolve to an asterism. Moving star out of field, could see 4 stars across the face of the background glow."

Pal 7, IC 1276, isn't too hard. "A fuzz."
Palomar 11 is no sissy. Took two concerted tries. My notes say "Haze stayed still."

For DDK, as well as the unwashed, as well as those who aren't toting around big light dumpsters, the rest of the Palomars you can have. I've seen a couple of the brightest Terzans thru Kingsley's 14.5, and Barbara Wilson is welcome to them.

Opinions r us,
DDK
