Brief OR Monday: MB

by Leonard Tramiel

I decided that I needed a break so I went up to Montebello on Monday night and I'm really glad I did.

The sky wasn't very dark but the seeing was quite good. It had been so long since I got out to observe I forgot some very important items:

Observing chair Red LED flashlight Green laser pointer

As a result my Sky Atlas was pretty useless. Anyway we did nice tour of eye-candy. Started with the moon then on to Saturn. The seeing allowed Cassini (the division that is) to be visible nearly around the entire visible ring. A nice assortment of globs, Ms 3,5,13 and Omega Cen, the Leo triple of galaxies, M51, a few doubles, M57 and ended with Jupiter.

The arrangement of the moons was quite interesting. One on one side the other three nearly equally spaced on the other. Turns out they were in order. The lone moon, and the closest to the planet was Io. The other side sported, in order away visually, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

It had been much too long and I'd like to thank Marek for posting his OI and all the other folk for being such good company.
