M106 from the backyard

by Richard Crisp

despite pretty lousy seeing conditions last night I decided to not waste the clear skies so I continued in my quest to get the Stinger450 dialed in.

I was fussing around with some issues relating to some slight tilt of my camera relative to the scope. I made an adaptor in the shop to cure the problem and it looks like it did.

I still have some star shape issues, they aren't perfectly round from corner to corner but I believe that is field curvature and have a plan to address that by changing the focal reduction ratio by adjusting the spacing from my reducer to camera but I digress.

This is 6 x 10 minutes exposure shot through a RED filter. Seeing was pretty jumpy last night as Pete and others discussed yesterday.

I was measuring high 3s to low 4s (arc-seconds) when I was focusing.

The Stinger450 really prefers 2 arc-sec and better, but with the weather we've had this year, I'll take what I can get
