Observing Report -- Cupertino -- 13 March 2006 (Monday)

(Equipment: Canon 15X50 IS binocs.) . . .

Like Bob, I'd been looking for an opportunity to check out the comet and had been up several mornings only to find clouds where a comet would be. But Monday morning it was clear over Menlo Park, and so I stepped out shortly before 5 equipped with a finder chart, red light, and binoculars (Nikon 9x25 Travelite V). Cygnus was conspicuous but for the Dolphin I needed the binoculars. From there to a star half-way between the Dolphin's nose and the Swan's wing tip. A fuzzy "ball" was now close by, as given by the chart. CalSKY gave the magnitude as 7.4 and getting fainter by 0.1 a day on its way to Cygnus and beyond. The show was over around 5:30 as the eastern sky was lighting up and Venus climbed to view.
