Mars Dresses For The Occasion

I did the same thing, except that I put my scope outside on the sidewalk/driveway along with my candy buckets. All the kids got a look at Mars besides their quota of sugar. The parents were more excited, though... all through the evening, I kept hearing, "Mom, can we go now?" while their parents were busy oohing over the views.

Mars was in good form last night in Elk Grove. With my Nexstar 8i, I was able to effectively use an 8mm eyepiece and pick up quite a bit of detail. The seeing was very nice, until around 10:30 or so, when the atmosphere seemed to get especially turbulent. By then the kids were gone, but the neighbors were all still out looking at the sights.

All in all, a very nice evening.
