Coyote 27 Aug, he cast his eye to the horizon

by Jamie Dillon

Jim Everitt's Mom is a cool woman. Last night, Jim was giving an explanation of how her mind can work. When someone once used the line, "He cast his eye to the horizon," the image she got in her head was of a guy baiting a hook with an eyeball and making a real long cast.

Now we have a new kickline to use, up there with "a little gem of woven fairy fire."

We had fun last night. Liam came along and had a good time. There were plenty of scopes and a steady run of customers for the public party. Our immediate neighbors were new to us, Heather and Daniel across the way, and Gary Mitchell next door, SJAA heavy hitter. Grimly Fiendish got to introduce his nice girlfriend.

Rashad was there with his refractor, Old School. He'll have to tell you himself what was attached to his focuser. Urgh. Shudder. Once again we learn that Rashad Al-Mansour is a law unto himself.

The sky at Coyote was cloud-free but really washed out from San Jose and Gilroy. No I didn't do any starcounts. Highlights like the Double Cluster and 7789 were pale imitations of how they're supposed to look. But the weather was delightful and a good time was had by all. In our neighborhood we spent time finding and then studying Uranus and Neptune.

M8, the Lagoon, had been featured prominently on the latest episode of Battlestar Galactica, so Liam asked for a fresh look. He noticed it was in fact an unusually popular target thru the night. Life imitating art.

Coyote Lake is pretty, so easy to get to, often with pretty decent skies. All hail once again to The Woolaghan for getting it for us for stargazing.
