M##s, Arietid meteors, and other showers

On my first round of the M## objects with a 5" scope, last night looked promising from our front lawn in Menlo Park. By 2:15 AM had had my first views of (in order) 104, 61, 99, 98, 71, 27, 12, and 10, and had seen fuzz in the area of 65&66. For an extra bonus, saw several meteors of the Arietid shower through the scope and a few while looking around, one of them truly spectacular (the only thing missing was the sound effect). But the real killer came at the end when the sprinklers turned on! Supposedly set for 5 AM, the timer had been reset by a power outage. Oh well, the star charts are a little weathered now, but the pants are already dry.

Happy viewing, but beware of auto-timers.
