Soft seeing at Coyote

by Rich Neuschaefer

Saturday, June 4th about 10 telescopes were set up in the Coyote parking lot. Jupiter was soft. The NEB and SEB were easy to see. Now and then you could see darker detail on the southern edge of the NEB. Stars didn't look bad but it was not a planetary night. I was using my AP 155mm f/7 APO refractor.

It was moderately windy near sunset but when it got dark the air was calm.

I left Coyote about 1:20 AM. It was a nice night except for being a little soft. I would have stayed later but had things I need to do later Sunday. Coyote isn't the darkest site but it isn't all that bad either. The Little Dipper is easy to see.

Given how easy it is to get to Coyote and that the parking lot is large and paved, on nights when we aren't likely to have fog over the valleys Coyote is a very nice observing site.
