Coe 5/2/2005 - a non-report

by Craig Colvin

I promised an OR in my earlier post describing the weather, but when I pulled my laptop out of my bag this morning it was off as opposed to hibernating. When I rebooted I discovered that none of my observations last night were recorded, so it looks like I have to redo them all. :(

I have been slowly working through the H400 and at the beginning of last night (and currently) I had 22 left to observe. I know I observed 7 more last night, but will wait to report them until I have had a chance re-observe them and reconstruct my observation logs.

In spite of the computer glitches I had a wonderful time last night. There were 6 of us up at Coe last night, Ron Britton, Rob Enns, Mark Berger, Sean McCauliff with his spiffy new Plettstone 15", Very pretty, Erik Wilcox a friend from the Cloudy Nights Forum and myself. Had a nice collection of SCTs and large dobs and spent a lot of time sharing and comparing views.

Some of the highlights of the night were M64, the Blackeye galaxy; Erik had a really nice view low power of the Leo Trio in his 16" dob, M51 looked great in both the 18" and 16". Also spent a lot of time on my favorite pair of galaxies NGC4656 (Hockey Stick) and NGC4631 (Whale). Nice to see of the summer eye candy as well such as M13, and the Lagoon Nebula.

A very nice night to observe and some experience gained regarding saving early and often.
