Houge Park Apr 1, '05

There was a relatively light turnout at Houge but we had a good night for obseriving. The transparency was quite good an the seeing was very good.

Saturn was very nice in my AP155EDFS (155mm f/7) APO refractor. For part of the time I could use over 300x with a very nice image. We had a group of Brownie Scouts (pre Girl Scouts). They had a good time looking throught the scopes and asking questions. Nice bunch of kids.

After 9:00pm I started looking at Jupiter. Io was very close to Jupiter's leading limb. There was nice festooning in the EZ. By the time Io was tranisiting it was easy to see a large light colored split in the NEB. I've never seen that in the NEB. As Io moved off Jupiter the GRS was just coming into view (I think).

Most of the time we were looking at Jupiter I had my Zeiss binoviewer with the barlow attached to the base of the binoviewer with the 1.25x corrector and 10mm Zeiss AOs.

Kevin S. was there with a very cool 10" travel Newt. I'll let him tell you about it.

It was a fun night.
