It was pretty wet. At about 6:30pm the fog dropped a couple hundred feet and the crescent moon was very pretty in the deep blue sky above the fog. I put my new used 15x70 binocular on a tripod and stole a quick look at the moon. Nice.
Filled with hope, we began to set up in earnest. But after a few minutes the fog rose back up to cover the peak. Bummer.
We took a walk over to the observatory area and conditions were pretty much the same. From time to time the fog would thin out and the brighter stars could be seen through the fog "nebulosity". It was actually pretty neat, the constellations were easy to pick out without the dim stars visible.
The fog swirled in and out. Peter said it was like a Van Gogh painting. Someone mentioned that this is what the sky would look like if we lived in the Pleiades.
Ruminating on the thought that residents of the Pleiades don't do much visual astronomy, I bailed out shortly after 8pm.
