Lick Observatory

by Jeff Crilly

Tonight was the "volunteer appreciation night" up at Lick Observatory.

We got there a bit late.. around 5:30pm or so, and it was coooold.

Anyhow there was the usual great tour of the shane dome, the 120 inch, mirror making room (now unused), aluminizing chamber, etc.

Once it was dark Eli opened up the 36". the skies were clearing and humidity wasnt bad. Due to the wind we were limited to objects in the southern part of the sky... m17, m11 were the initial objects.

Anyhow, we hung around a bit, then headed down the mountain.

It was nice being up there... relaxing, without the usual sometimes hectic volunteer "work".

Though it was nice, it was not a night I would want to be out back (outside) with the scopes.
