IHOP on 9-12 (Sunday)

by Bill Porte

I went up to IHOP2 last night. Two other nice folks--the Lockharts-- also showed up to take advantage of what turned out to be a fine evening for astronomy. The sky was dark and quite transparent. Seeing was reasonable (3-4/5). I had my 12.5" Portaball and the Lockharts had a Televue NP101 on a new Losmandy mount. We spent much of the evening viewing familiar "eye candy" objects, and the two scopes complimented each other well. Highlights included marvelous views of the Veil, the Helix, dark nebula B86, the nebulae in Sagitarius with OIII filters, face-on galaxy Caldwell 12 in Cepheus,M33, Andromeda, the Double Cluster, M76, and many nice globulars. We packed up just before 11 PM, although I would have stayed longer if I didn't have to get up early on Monday! I hope to get up to IHOP again soon. Clear Skies!
