Mt. Tamalpais
by Robert English
The SFAA star party on Mt. Tam was fogged in (or is that fogged out?)
last Saturday night. It's been favoring fog 3-1 so far this summer. I
have a nearby spot on a neighboring ridge below East Peak that is
frequently free of fog, and so a few members and I made the trip to 37
55 13.6 N, 122 34 01.4 W and were treated to a couple of hours of very
good seeing until the atmosphere started condensing at about 11pm. Not
bad considering the alternative (coffee at Denny's).
I guess we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, so to speak. If
the fog continues to plague the SFAA Mt Tam SP, I may venture into
infrared astronomy or toss it all and go millimeter wave. Then I can
move to northern Pacifica. ;-)
