2-star clusters from my backyard on 7/5/04
by Peter McKone
It's been more than two weeks since the end of SSP, and photon deprivation
was setting in. I set up the Intes Mak in my backyard to look at double
stars. To avoid wasting my time, I started with Epsilon Lyra. No problem.
Next was Mu Draco (Struve 2130). Nice evenly matched pair with separation =
2.2 arc seconds. Very clean at 240x. Would it be silly try 20 Draco
(Struve 2118) with separation = 1.1"? Nice clean split at 350x! Seeing
must be pretty good. Tried Zeta Bootes (Struve 1865) with separation =
0.7". No split. But nearby Pi Bootes (Struve 1864) was a nice consolation.
Tried Nu Scorpio, but the seeing was not good there. Also failed to see a
split in Struve 1834 (mag 8, sep 1.5") in the forearm of Arcturus, near
Alkaid. Not sure why. Finished up with Epsilon Bootes (Struve 1877, Izar).
Very pretty.
