Let me also briefly introduce myself. I have had a dormant astronomy interest ever since I watched the rings of Saturn as a kid. A few weeks ago, my son and I were at a star party in San Carlos. The friendly people there showed us the planets, m42, etc. When I saw the same fascination in my son that I had experienced all these years ago, I knew I had an excellent excuse for finally buying a telescope.
I bought an XT-8 at Orion last weekend, and spent most nights last week trying to find my way around the sky from my light-polluted backyard in San Carlos. I caught the bug quite badly from the start, and managed to convince myself that there was really no reason not to upgrade to the XT-10 immediately. Yes, I know its called aperture fever... The Orion store honored their generous 30 day satisfaction guarantee and I got the XT-10 in order just in time for the drive down to Coyote lake.

There was a new guy there (Anders?) with his new XT10 he had picked up that day. Although I hate to blame the clouds on his new scope you know how fickle the cloud gods can be with new equipment.
Yeah right. Blame it all on me!
He seemed to be enjoying finding the bright M's that were visible between the clouds. As did I.
I certainly enjoyed it! I think you are mistaken though when you call them 'bright'
Thanks a lot, and hope to meet you soon again.
