I was out last night early with my daughter and what a nice night, shirt sleeve weather. Izzy is 4 and wants to look through the telescope any chance she gets and usually wants to see Venus first. Venus was looking slightly gibbous and blindingly brilliant, she loved it.

Seeing was excellent in Santa Rosa last night, 5 stars easy in the Trapezium with a 6th visible more than 50% of the time. I was also able to see Rigel's companion I think. Starting from north and going counter-clockwise it was at a position of about 200 deg...does that sound right?

Saturn was excellent at 270x, a beautiful milky yellow with a brownish equatorial band, even the southern pole seemed to have a bit of color. Between 9 and 10:30 when the marine layer rolled in, Jupiter looked great 270x as well with the GPS (great pale spot) crisp and lots of detail in the belts. Even the north and south tertiary (that is what they are called isn't it) belts showing some detail.
