Full Moon OR: Castro Valley (Jones-Emberson 1 Planetary Nebula/PK164+31.1)

by Richard Crisp

I was so happy to have some non-cloudy nights to image that I didn't care if there was a full moon or not. Going again by my rule of thumb of chasing the dimmest planetaries on nights of full moons, I attacked a little-known planetary that goes by two different names; Jones-Emberson 1 or the more anonymous PK164+31.l

While doing a bit of research on the web looking for other images of it, I saw that Bruce Jensen wrote up an observing report on TAC about having seen this beast back in 98.

Here is my image I took beginning last night and finished tonight. I used Oxygen III, Nitrogen II and Hydrogen Alpha filters.

It is a pretty dim planetary nebula at 12.5 roughly but it is big for most planetaries.
