Yosemite 12/27/02...

by Jeff Crilly

Just thought I'd mention to you all that we had some decent skies last friday, 12/27/02, out at Yosemite.

We stayed in "Yosemite West" which is just off 41 about 5 minutes from the valley floor. Most folks had motion-security lights, but there was a dark spot down the road about 200 feet from the house. Also, one of the hottubs had a decent view of the sky (once all the patio lights were covered).

On thursday night we were pretty much clouded out in the evening but there was clearing towards morning. On friday night my brother and I did some bino observing with the 9x63s from the snowy/icy road out front.

The horizons were pretty much shot due to high trees, but we did get nice dark views in the binos of the brighter stuff -- M31, the double cluster, m42. Jupiter was barely visisble through the trees, and saturn was up high.

Fwiw, the seeing seemed pretty steady, but I had decided to not bring a regular scope.
