Eclipse viewing...

by Robert Leyland

Got a good view of the eclipse from work, showed it to a bunch of people, office mates and folks just hanging around. I had a set of eclipse glasses left over from the 1999 event, provided by Astronomy magazine, which gave the best view.

A sunlight coming through a nearby tree demonstrated the crescent spot effect, where shafts of light coming through the leaves form neat little crescents instead of circular spots. Holding your hand up, and forming a small opening between thumb and forefinger achieves the same effect. This completely amazed many people.

It's neat to see a big chunk taken out of the sun!
