(those are pretty big images... as usual, I apologize for the long download times in advance, but hey, ya just cant knock down the quality.)
We had a school play to attend tonight, which actually made it a bit more fun.
Before leaving for the play, I set up the small telescope (the etx-60) in the back patio with an orion solar filter. I was able to snap some photos with the nikon 990 attached to a williams optics DCL-28 (eyepiece projection). Also used was a 3x barlow yielding about 44x.
We headed over to the school at about 6pm; I brought three pair of eclipse glasses I had from the last eclipse visible in the bay area...Dec 25, 2000, http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/extra/PSE2000Dec25.html
As we walked down the hall at the school we noticed the trees making little pinhole cameras, projecting the crescent sun on the wall.... This was simply fantastic. Just before curtain call, we watched the eclipse from various vantage points, probably catching the peak, but not really noting it... It sorta turned into a mini-eclipse party, as we were passing the eclipse glasses to various parents (and kids) also attending the play.
Most of all, the projections through the trees were just amazing.
