After spending a few minutes in the farmers lot with Albert and Jamie, we made the 45minute drive to fremont peak... As jamie pointed out there were cirrus clouds in the area, and I was concerned with them as I started up san jaun canyon road. I was also a bit concerned with the number of cars coming down the road! (Was it too crowded up there?)
Arriving at about 9pm, it was indeed crowded -- cars everywhere. However, there was a bit of space in the southwest lot, so we bypassed the "lot full" sign and drove on up there like we owned the place.
Familiar voices were heard up there (Phil, Dave, Akkana, later I heard Bob C, etc).
I had planned to get some observing in, but given the situation (some clouds, a fair number of white lights, etc), I bagged the idea of setting up the scope and kicked back. However, the clouds cleared before midnight, and though there was lights from salinas, it turned out to be a decent night.
Linda and Jean were with me... Linda was the meteor observer, I had a tough time staying awake, and Jean was zonked. I must say, this was the best meteor display I've ever seen. Very impressive!
About 4am I set up the small scope (60mm f5.6) and looked at some of the bright stuff -- jupiter, saturn, m81/82/42... It was a decent night.
