Not quite. I just made several wrong choices, including my place of residence. People in Prundedale, and in Watsonville right on the coast for crrying out loud, had crystalline skies. Was socked in in Salinas, dense.
First we had serious valley fog at Dino. Albert, Jeff and I headed to a farm road just west of Casa de Fruta, along the creek there. Patchy sky eventually filled in. I headed over to San Juan Bautista, sat at the beginning of the road to the Peak, looked at all the high cirrus, saw a steady flow of cars heading up to the Peak toward 11 pm, said nah I don't trust myself to drive up there and back in traffic, went home.
Hmph. At least I got home safe and sound, but that's not much for sour grapes after all the reports from far and near. My pals in DC, on Capitol Hill, walked over to the neighborhood park, in a sky that's 2.0 limiting magnitude at best, and had a great show. Hmph.
Last night at home the sky was clear in all directions.
Back to deepsky, far less ephemeral. Throw in a comet and an asteroid. Vesta's circling around the Hyades this month...
