Great Globs of Stardust

by Richard Crisp

Last night I was out for a business dinner but upon returning at 10pm noted the very still sky and the good seeing and so decided to take a look through the SCT.

Since it was still pretty bright in my SJ backyard even before the moon rose, I decided to take a look at some Globular Clusters. I figured I had enough time to enjoy M92, M13 and M5 before La Luna decided to make her appearance known.

I will have to agree with the author of the recent article on Globular Clusters in S&T that M92 is indeed a very nice one, and one that is often ignored. I recommend it highly! I guess people start at M3 and work their way UP the list. I started at M92 and worked my way BACK through the list sort of....

M3 was too low for me to examine last night, but the other three were easy targets and were quite distinct, even through an eyepiece in San Jose.
