I am in the process of making a Dob for my kids who are still quite small and I wanted a scope that they could use and actually see things with. A 6" f8 or a 8" f6 are still to long for them to use without a stool. I ended up getting a slightly use Discovery 8" f5 Telescope on a equitorial mount (which I think is to hard for them to use) I still have to make a Dob mount.
Telescope | 8" f5 |
---|---|
Eyepiece | 40mm wide angle with Coma corrector |
Seeing | good and fairly steady |
Limiting mag | 5 (pretty light polluted) |
I first looked at Jupiter and the bands were bright and clear but small since I was only at 30X I then turned to m45 and it was like seeing it for the first time. The view was incredible. The whole cluster could be seen at once. I spent about 1/2 hour just looking at it. I can only imagine what it would have been like from a dark sight. Unfortunatly some clouds rolled in and I had to pack it up.
