Montebello 8/12

Spending the night with the coyotes

by Robert MacKay

I went up to Montebello last night to catch a few perseids and a few lunar photos. Caught a little of both until I ran out of film.

Before the Night began I was greeted by a couple of the resident coyotes who took an interest in me. They didn't feel like leaving and neither did I. The parking lot was big enough for all of us. I heard them walk away shortly after darkness (if you want to call it that) set in.

After a few hours of shooting the moon and some Polaris star trails I sat back in my portable lounge chair. (you guys need to get one of these) and scanned the skies with my 9x63's. I soon fell asleep!

What a great night it was. I woke up an hour or so later and noticed the coyotes had returned. They were just sitting on the ground about 10 feet away wondering if I either had food or if I was food. I got up and they figured that I wasn't too appealing and scampered away.

All in all it was a pretty good night. Caught a few nice Perseids and some nice photos too.
