Montebello Wed 6-21

by Phil Chambers

At Montebello last night I was set up next to ----- (name memory is totally gone) who mentioned that he had split Antares the night before and it was the first time for him (trying off and on for some time). So the little N5 got aimed in that direction. I could not split it in focus. However, with a 32 TV plossl, an ultima 2x doubler and a UO Klee 2.8 doubler, AND the star(s) out of focus so the energy in the diffraction rings were larger than the 2 or 3 sec separation, There they were, a large orange star and a little green one. NEAT (about 220x)

With the star in focus, one side of it looked greenish but no split although occasionally you could imagine it.

Quite a kludge of glass but it worked.
