Matt:
Gosh, I probably was right behind you on the way up to work a Lick Vulcan Crocker Dome last night the 8th. I arrived on site at 4:30 PM and the weather was the pits.
I fired up all the equipment but left he dome shut and the scope capped off. So I had dinner, did some computer work with MIRA, then called my buddy Andy over at Shane 120. They were in "Shutdown" mode over there. As he and I were chatting, I opened the control room door to take a look at the sky. All I could see was a very fuzzy looking Jupiter. So I stepped back inside, still on the phone to Andy. It probably wasn't five more minutes, when I took another look and it was CRYSTAL CLEAR! So I said a quick goodbye to Andy, and fired everything up! I think Andy did likewise at Shane.
I imaged most of the night with a few pauses for clouds around 0900 UT and then around 1230 UT things got bad again so I called it a night after doing my final calibrations. All in all, it was a fair night with over 120 image sets.
The drive down found Halls valley with ground fog to the south but clear by the park entrance Foggy down Quimby for a bit and yucky in San Jose.
