Great seeing for moon, Saturn, Jupiter

by Paul Sterngold

Just came in from the sidewalk, where I had many moments of excellent seeing. Using the Tak FC100 at 133x - 211x, I cruised the region of Aristarchus, Prinz and "Mairan" (Rukl #9) and spent lots of time watching subtle features waft in and out of view. I found Rimae Aristarchus near Prinz, which was challenging, along with several other rimae in that area.

Saturn and Jupiter were also splendid. Three of Jove's moons were forming a tight triangle, with the third far away on the opposite side. Couldn't see anything noteworthy on the planet other than the "usual" bands. Saturn's rings were crisp with Cassini's clear and dark. I kept talking myself into seeing the Crepe Ring but that's probably a figment of my imagination.

Off to bed. Nice observing for an hour.
