Last Saturday our observing group, TAC, was at Henry Coe State Park about 30 miles south of San Jose, California.
The air was not very clear but the seeing was very good. It was mostly about 8 of 10 and sometimes better. The defocused star image was virtually still.
I got so carried away looking at the detail on Jupiter I forgot to experiment with colored filters, barlows, etc. I'll write a regular report later. I have never seen so many white ovals on Jupiter. Saturn looked very good but I've seen it better when there is less junk in the air. The features on third quarter moon were outstanding. I have never had a better view of Copernicus and the little craters between Copernicus and Eratosthenes. Stadius was also easy to see.
The seeing was so good even the 18" Dobs were giving outstanding planetary views.
