A Wonderful Night

by Bill Arnett

Last night I had the best seeing I've ever experienced looking at Jupiter. Astounding detail. Ganymede (and its shadow) where perfect little disks; it was *easy* to see the curvature of it, not just the extent. Ganymede transited and I could see it against the planet (but I had to get to bed before it got very far).

There were several big festoons in the northern side of the EZ. I could see the two smaller belts north of the NEB and two smaller ones south of the SEB.

But the star of the show was the GRS and the region immediately following it in the SEB. The GRS itself was clearly delineated and obviously pink. Heretofore I had seen the following region only as "disturbed". Last night it was obviously full of white ovals, some of which were misshapen. All this thru high clouds!
