Montebello report

by David Kingsley

Montebello was reasonably clear when I arrived around 8:30 last night, but somewhat windy. I ran through some of the Messier Marathon book by Don Machholz to get a better feel for the arrangment and detail of the charts, recommended observing order etc. I was able to go through 28 objects in Lepus, Orion, Auriga, Taurus, Gemini, Canis Major, Cancer, Leo, and Ursa Major before fog rolled in about 9:45 pm. My 7x35 finder was starting to dew after only an hour or so, and this session provided a good reminder that I need to rig up some sort of finder dew control system before trying a real Messier Marathon.
