Through the binoculars I could see two or three small, white flickering points (something falling away from the rocket?). The bright glow got quite bright, easy to see without the binoculars. The rocket (bright point) went away but a blue green, round "cloud" remained glowing in the sky for several minutes.
I thought at first this was debris, but as the smoke cleared a bit I realized I was looking at navigation lights of an aircraft, possibly the chase plane.
I had wandered out to a nearby area near the bay, only to encounter road blocks and park rangers (who knew me, fortunately, so I got to stay put and share the view with them). Something interesting going on out there tonight...
Sure was fun watching the launch - many thanks to Brian White and Rick Baldridge for providing the info.
