Very minor observations

by Matthew Buynoski

Yesterday was "chore day" so I had no way to plan any sort of observing session. However, when I came back home from one errand about 7, I noticed the sky was brilliantly clear. Might be possible to get the scope out later....

I finally made it out by 8:30, by which time, sadly, clouds had obscured everything but Orion and were moving in fast on that...

So I dug out the new binoculars and spent a happy 15 minutes ogling the sparkling stars. The Pleiades were visible for a very short time through a rent in the incoming stratus, so I got a peek at them, too. But that was it.

This AM, whilst out and about early, appx. 8:40, there was a fantastic rainbow. It was displayed against dark grey clouds (the ones overhead now dumping on Palo Alto) and absolutely sharp and brilliant, as if made of stained glass.

So I got in a little bit of stellar spectral observation this weekend after all :-)
