Moon Report 11/6/97
By David North

Interesting night after all. Got a few holes in the clouds, so I pulled the 4.5 out from under the shelter and took some quick widefield views (whole moon).

In a perverse way, I enjoy these nights, as they are purely aesthetic without any drive to hunt... but a few things showed up anyway. At least, things that are only obvious in this perspective...

Boskovitch (Rukl 34) is really remarkable as a largish feature near the terminator (at least I'm pretty sure that's what makes the brown smudge in that location). For some reason it really stands out as a complex structure. Well, it is a weird crater anyway...

I enjoy that area closer in, especially the smeary Julius Caesar (messed around good by the "Imbrium Event -- I kinda like the understatement of these terms).

Not that it means much, but I was also struck by how prominent Bessel (Rukl 24) appears. For some reason, I'd never noticed this before.

New moon every day...

Tech: 4.5-inch newt/Polaris mount (hand crank). 17mm TV Plossl for an amazing 54x in really really ratty seeing (unless you like that shimmery look...)
